Our pastor is a post-millennialist! Ie, he believes that Christ will return, physically, for the saints, at the end of history, after a very long period of spiritual blessing (the millennium). The millennium takes place in the same way as conversions do now but to a greater number of people. Conversions are still achieved by the preaching of the gospel accompanied with the Holy Spirit’s blessing.

The millennium (ie the kingdom) has already begun. It started with Christ’s first coming (the term Second Coming is in not in Scripture), Jesus said "if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you" [Luke 11:19]. The kingdom comes gradually over a long period of time "the kingdom of God does not come with observation" [Luke 17:20] and "The kingdom of God is...first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head" [Mark 4:28].

Ever since His ascension, Jesus has been ruling from heaven. He does not need to be physically present to rule on earth. Satan, the god of this world rules (albeit on a chain) without being physically present!

Since Christ’s ascension, the "middle wall" has been "broken down", and the Word of God has spread all over the earth. Comparing the knowledge of the present day world of Gentile Christians with the pre-Christian knowledge of Israel alone, there has been an ‘explosion’ of Biblical knowledge spread beyond the shores of Israel. The spread of the Word of God has just begun. When the Jews are converted to Christ, that will be the catalyst for the real spread of the gospel.

The long period of spiritual blessing will be more than a literal thousand years – a thousand years would only be, at the most, around a seventh of age of the world.

Our pastor believes that the pre-millennial position is responsible for much of the hysteria and false hope which many have entertained, thinking that the end times have come upon us.

Our responsibility is to spread the gospel, praying for the Holy Spirit to bless the reading and preaching of the Word of God.
